Amanda Samson, DVM, Medical Director
Dr. Amanda Samson joined Boone as the Medical Director in 2014. She earned her Bachelor of Science from Bowling Green State University before graduating with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from The Ohio State University in 2008. During her clinical year, Dr. Samson completed an ophthalmology externship in Florence, Italy. Since being in private practice, she has become certified in ultrasound and found a particular interest in veterinary ophthalmology and internal medicine.
Dr. Samson and her husband, Adam reside in Lombard with their dogs, Unsi & Eugene, and cat, Rupert. She enjoys gardening, hiking and running. However, her favorite hobby is enjoying the company of friends and family.
Alicia Hines, DVM
Dr. Alicia Hines earned her veterinary degree from the University of Illinois after completing her undergraduate degree at The University of Montana. A native of southern Illinois, Dr. Hines grew up surrounded by animals. She learned from an early age that whether it is a dog, cat, horse, or cow, animals are more than just pets; they are a very important member of the family!
In addition to welcoming each patient into the Boone family, Dr. Hines especially enjoys performing surgery and dentistry procedures, she has a special interest in improving overall patient comfort during their visits to the hospital. She is a member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners and has led the hospital in achieving and maintaining a Feline Friendly Practice certification.
Dr. Hines and her husband, Jim, share their home with a dog and two cats. They will be welcoming a son due to arrive in early August 2017. In her free time, she enjoys reading, gardening, running, attending concerts, and community performances.
Jennifer Deyo, DVM
Dr. Jennifer Deyo received her B.S. in Science from the University of Illinois and then continued to receive her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Minnesota in 2006. With a particular interest in pain management, Dr. Deyo became certified in Veterinary Medical Acupuncture through the Curacore Integrative Medicine and Education Center in 2011, and has brought the practice of acupuncture to our hospital. In addition to pain management, some of her other professional interests include dermatology and behavior/training hospital.
In her spare time, Jennifer enjoys training and competing in dog sports, mainly agility and nose work. She is currently training Ziva, her Rottweiler, with a volunteer Search and Rescue group. In addition to Ziva, she also enjoys spending time with her three French Bulldogs, Tallulah, Cooper, and Buster; cat, Pixie; and an Asian Leaf Turtle, Sage.
Andrea Hayes, VMD, DACVS, Board Certified Surgeon
Dr. Andrea Hayes joined Boone Animal Hospital in 1994 and received her Veterinary Medical Degree from the University of Pennsylvania. She completed a joint surgical residency at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts and Angell Animal Medical Center in Massachusetts. Dr. Hayes achieved her dream of helping dogs and cats by becoming a Board-Certified Surgeon specializing in orthopedics in 1996.
When not attending to her many patients at Boone Animal Hospital, Dr. Hayes spends quality time with her son and husband, and she enjoys many extracurricular activities such as sports and music. She also enjoys spending time with her large pet family, including two dogs, Daisy and Bubba; a cat, Jumpy; a guinea pig, Nibbles, and many fish.
Andrew Sheridan, DVM
Ever since 1st grade, Dr. Andrew Sheridan wanted to become a veterinarian and a baseball player. Unfortunately, his baseball career ceased after high school. He received his undergraduate and veterinary degrees from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. He has found a special interest in internal medicine, neurology, and ultrasonography. Dr. Sheridan worked in private practice for three years before joining the staff at Boone in 2013.
Dr. Sheridan and his wife Aurora, have a son named Abel and two fuzzy kids named Care Bear and Mia. In his free time, he enjoys biking, traveling, playing sports, and playing the piano. Being a native of Chicago, Dr. Sheridan is a die-hard fan of the Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls, and Cubs; and will always root for the Fighting Illini!
Jennifer Duran, DVM
Dr. Jennifer Duran is the newest addition to the Boone Animal Hospital family as our Exotics Veterinarian. She grew up in Chicago and has never strayed too far from her childhood home. Dr. Duran received her B.S. in Biology and teaching certificate in secondary education from Saint Xavier University. She then attended the University of Illinois for veterinary school (Ill-INI) and graduated in 2005 with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Duran has worked in two previous small animal practices and a primary exotics practice since graduating veterinary school. She loves her dogs and cat friends but has a special place in her heart for exotics-small fuzzies, ferrets, reptiles, birds, amphibians, and even fish. During her fourth year in veterinary school, she custom tracked exotics and externed at Midwest Bird & Exotic Animal Hospital, Brookfield Zoo, John G. Shedd Aquarium, and Sea World in Orlando.
When not treating her patients and educating her clients, she enjoys spending time with her husband and three children. They enjoy watching and playing hockey, gymnastics, swimming in their pool, and enjoying all that Chicago has to offer.
Dr. Duran always had a ‘zoo’ in her home since she was a little girl. She believes it was because of always being surrounded by animals that she knew she wanted to be a veterinarian who she grew up. But not just any veterinarian, a veterinarian who could teach her clients as well; hence, the teaching degree. Now she’s all grown up and living her dream!
Brenda Smaller – Practice Manager
Brenda has proudly been Boone Animal Hospital’s Practice Manager since 2011 and enjoys being a source of support to the Boone staff by providing strategies to help each person reach their professional goals. With over 20 years of experience in supervisory positions in residential real estate, retail management, and customer service, Brenda has quickly become a key asset to the success of the hospital. She loves dogs and cats, especially greyhounds and has done volunteer work at REGAP (Retired Greyhounds as Pets). She and her husband have had several retirees, and currently have two rescued greyhounds named Dream Boy and Kathryn Nora aka ‘Kitty’, as well as a young whippet named Koby. During her free time, she enjoys creating jewelry, sewing and anything crafty.
Callie joined our team in 2016 as our Assistant Practice Manager. She comes to Boone with a vast customer experience background. Her love for animals continues, she grew up with dogs, birds, turtles and a rabbit.
Callie and her husband have three daughters, three granddaughters, and two grandsons. She loves the outdoors, loves to travel, cook, and most of all spend time with her husband and family.
Michele started at Boone in 2010 and is our Lead Receptionist who keeps our front desk organized. She has an adult son, Brandon, two dogs, Flash and Georgia, and a turtle named Harold. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her dogs, yoga, and cheering on The Cubs!
Alicia came to Boone in 2006 as a receptionist. Since she no longer has pets, she enjoys seeing and cuddling our furry clients. She has two adult sons and enjoys traveling with her husband, gardening, hiking, reading and yoga. Fun fact: she is our secret gardener.
Laura graduated from Northern Illinois University with a BS degree in Social Work and has worked at Boone since 2012. She is thrilled to assist in the care of the amazing animals and clients that come into Boone Animal Hospital. Laura and her husband are proud owners of Hawkeye, our previous resident cat and a small herd of teenage tortoises. In her free time, she loves to travel and attending concerts with her husband.
Sherrie joined Boone in 2016, and we are so happy to have her incredible detail oriented skills at the front desk. Her previous work background was in banking and retail. She has two daughters, two grandsons, four grand-dogs and three grand-cats. She and her family all share a special love for pitbulls.
Vivian started at Boone in 2016. Previously in Viv’s work history, she was a teacher in early education and speciality retail. She and her husband have a daughter, a son, a beautiful granddaughter, and a Welsh Corgi named Guinness. Viv loves time with her granddaughter, golf, and to spend time relaxing by the pool.
Jamie came to Boone after years of work in the retail and hospitality industry. She and her husband have two sons, a Dachshund, Scooter, and a Min Pin, Stanley. In her spare time, Jamie loves to travel, read, garden, cook, and entertain family and friends.
DeAnn is the Lead Veterinary Technician and has been with Boone since 1989. As part of the leadership team, DeAnn provides guidance for the technicians daily. DeAnn and her husband have two teenagers, two dogs, and two cats. Fun fact: she is the cat whisperer.
Becky, Certified Veterinary Technician, loves her job as a technician. She graduated from Parkland College with Certification in Veterinary Technology in 1997. Becky has been at Boone since 2010 where she enjoys performing dental procedures alongside the doctors. She is also a Certified Weight Coach from Purina. In her down time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, three children, her dog, Sarge four cats, Charlie, Booger, Ernie and Rambo, and Helga, the snake.
Michelle, Certified Veterinary Technician, has worked at Boone Animal Hospital since 2012. After receiving her degree in Applied Science from the Veterinary Institute at Fox College, she began her career. Michelle has always had a passion for working with animals ever since she was young. She grew up with two Beagles and a cat named Jingles. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and baking.
Melissa (aka “Mo” to her co-workers)
Melissa, aka “Mo” has been a part of Boone history since 1998. She loves her job and spends the majority of her time in surgery with Dr. Hayes, our Orthopedic Surgeon. Mo has two dogs, her old man Diesel, and Toby. Her free time is spent with her amazing daughter and volunteering at any shelters that she can.
Carol joined the Boone family in 1999. She started as a receptionist and has progressed to a Veterinary Technician. She enjoys assisting the doctors and staff as they care for all the clients and pets. Carol and her husband have three children, two grandchildren, three grand-dogs Dutch, Pepper and Bane. In her free time, she enjoys reading, watching sports, especially The Blackhawks and loves spending time on the beach in Michigan with her husband and family.
Christian began working at Boone in 2011 as a Veterinary Technician. His Alma Mater is Loyola University, Chicago. Christian loves the marriage of medicine and technology and how it has evolved over the years. Surgery and anesthesia hold a special place in his heart. He is a proud uncle to a Bichon named Panda.
Terra, joined Boone Animal Hospital in 2016 as a Veterinary Technician. She received her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science from Texas A&M University in 2013. Siince then, Terra has been working in the Chicagoland area in both day practice and emergency medicine. She is the proud doggie aunt of a mutt named Oliver. In her free time, Terra enjoys challenging herself in CrossFit and mud runs as well as mentally with trivia and puzzles. CrossFit certainly helps her lift some of our “more to love” patients!
Jessica, Certified Veterinary Technician, started her career at Boone in 2016. She graduated from the Veterinary Institute at Fox College with a degree in Applied Science and a Certification in Veterinary Technology. Jessica is the proud owner of a guinea pig, Ginger and two rats, Midna and Aria. Jessica enjoys reading, knitting and volunteering at Willowbrook Wildlife Center during her free time.
Geneva has interned at Boone for the past 4 summers. She graduated in 2016 with her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona. She is currently attending Midwestern University College of Veterinary Medicine and will graduate with her doctorate in 2020. When Geneva isn’t busy with school or saving animals she enjoys running and hiking with her rescued shepherd mix, Rudy and swimming in the Arizona heat.
